Description
Why this coffee?
Rwamatamu Coffee is a family business founded in 2015, aiming to positively impact the poverty in rural communities in Rwanda through the production and harvesting of coffee. Rwamatamu work together with Omwani Coffee to bring their coffee to the UK, we picked this as our favourite lot from the harvest. It has the classic washed Rwandan flavour profile we know and enjoy but with just a bit more refinement and clarity.
Where has it been grown and farmed?
Rwamatamu’s coffee farm and washing station are located in the Western province of Rwanda, where the landscape consists of picturesque rolling hills flanked around Lake Kivu in Nyamasheke District. This region provides a tropical highland climate with an average temperature of 14 to 24 °C and regular rainfall. This ideal terroir is perfect for growing high quality arabica. Rwamatamu’s coffee also participated and was greatly received in the national cup of excellence competition.
How has the coffee been processed?
Fully washed and then dried on raised beds
What can you expect from the smell and taste?
Dried apricot, blood orange, brown sugar and a black tea finish.
How do we like it?
Big, juicy and puckering as espresso which we like, but it’s more at home in the cupping bowl or as a pour over or cafetiere.
