Description
Why this coffee?
La Nueva Era is a coffee with a really distinctive flavour profile that we fell in love with as soon as we tasted it. We have sourced some of every harvest since 2018 and it is consistently excellent quality and a really delicious.
Where is it grown and farmed?
La Nueva Era Cooperative is located in the village of Jumaytepeque, near Nueva Santa Rosa city in the Fraijanes region. Higher potassium levels in the soil here tend to bring extra body to these coffees. The coffee that makes up the natural lot is grown solely by Finca Tololoche. This farm is owned and run by a three generation family: Jamie Sanchez, his father Don Fernando and son Fernando.
How has the coffee been processed?
For this naturally processed coffee, cherries are picked between 22-26 Brix, washed and then dried on the patio for 4 days without any turning or moving. After this the cherries are turned 6 – 8 times each day for another 4 days or so, before a final drying stage to the required moisture level.
What can you expect from the smell and taste?
We get a chocolate biscuit aroma with hibiscus, blueberries, blackberries, and cocoa flavours.
How do we like it?
It’s versatile. There’s great espresso potential with this coffee when carefully dialled in and it offers delicious milk based drinks with dark fruit and chocolate notes. Equally tasty brewed for filter or pour over.
